Др Александра Ступар је професор на Архитектонском факултету Универзитета у Београду, где је дипломирала (1997), магистрирала (2001) и докторирала (2005). Од 2017. године је руководилац Департмана за урбанизам.

Активно учествује у бројним домаћим и међународним истраживачким пројектима и радионицама, објављујући чланке и поглавља у националним и интернационалним часописима и монографијама усмереним на проблеме савремених градова и њихове феномене. Коаутор је или члан експертског тима више студија и планских докумената.

Др Ступар је аутор две награђене књиге – ‘Град глобализације – изазови, трансформације, симболи’ (2009) и ‘Град – форме и процеси’ (2016; друго издање 2019). 2012. године је била гост уредник тематског броја часописа Serbian Architectural Journal (‘City vs. Innovation’). Као истраживач и предавач је до сада гостовала на следећим институцијама – Institute for Advanced Studies on Science, Technology and Society (IAS-STS) Graz (2007, 2011), University of Tampere – School of Humanities and Social Sciences (2010-2013), Sapienza Università di Roma – Facoltà di architettura Valle Giulia (2006,2008-9), University of Helsinki – Faculty of Social Sciences (2019).

Члан је ISOCARP-а (International Society of City and Regional Planners), где је била и део научног комитета (2013-16). Национални је представник у AESOP-у (од 2018).
