Predavanje: Maison de Verre, Pierre Chareau i Radionica: Architectural Cosmopoiesis

Mary Vaughan Johnson je glavni docent i kustos u Maison de Verre u Parizu i predavač na Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation i École Spéciale d’Architecture. Ona će prikazati i diskutovati nove poglede na jednu od najmoćnijih arhitektonskih modernih ikona u okviru predavanja i studentske radionice.

Interpretirana kao “mašina za stanovanje” Maison de Verre je nesumnjivo jedna od najmoćnijih arhitektonskih modernih ikona, koje je opisao Kenneth Frampton kao total machine object i kao total work of art. Ova izjava izgleda da implicira neku vrstu oksimorona sugerišući da postoje oba kao jedan objekat koji pripada običnom, industrijalizovanom modernom svetu i izvanrednom svetu umetnosti. Dok su prethodni naučnici istraživali Maison de Verre kao modernu ikonu i njen odnos prema francuskom pokretu avangarde Mary Vaughan Johnson tvrdi da njen status kao “mašine za stanovanje” treba da bude istražen podrobnije sa antropološkog stanovišta.

Interpreted as a ‘machine for living’ the Maison de Verre is undoubtedly one of the most powerful architectural Modern icons, described by Kenneth Frampton as both a ‘total machine object’, and a ‘total work of art’. This statement seems to imply a kind of oxymoron suggesting that it exists both as an object belonging to the ordinary and mundane world of an industrialized Modern world and to the extraordinary world of art. While previous scholars have investigated the Maison de Verre as a Modern icon and its relationship to the French avant-garde movement Mary Vaughan Johnson argues that its status as a ‘machine for living’ needs to be explored more fully from an anthropological point of view.

ARCHITECTURAL COSMOPOIESIS: An exercise in drawing

Namera radionice je da preispita ulogu arhitektonskog crteža u savremenom kontekstu širenja i sazrevanja digitalnih tehnologija. Mary Vaughan Johnson predlaže promišljanje kognitivne percepcije arhitekte kroz proces crtanja. Vežba crtanja podrazumeva projekat toaleta sa fokusom na jedan odabrani detalj, dok su umesto boja ili grafita predviđene tečne ili praškaste namirnice i/ili začini u boji (senf, paprika, kakao, borovnice, čaj…) Džonson metodologiju ove vežbe zasniva na tezama i eksperimentima arhitekte i teoretičara arhitekture Marka Fraskarija (Marco Frascari).

Radionica je otvorena za studente Osnovnih i Master studija Univerziteta u Beogradu – Arhitektonskog fakulteta. Broj učesnika je ograničen na 15 studenata. Prijave sa imenom, prezimenom i brojem indeksa slati na a.cirovic@arh.bg.ac.rs do ponedeljka, 18. maja 2015. godine. Selekcija će biti vršena po redosledu prijava.

Mary Vaughan Johnson trenutno boravi u Parizu, kao glavni docent i kustos Maison de Verre dok završava svoju disertaciju pod nazivom L’Art de Vivre Moderne in the Toilet Rooms of the Maison de Verre. Prezentovala je svoj rad na nacionalnim i internacionalnim konferencijama. Mary Johnson je doktorand iz oblasti arhitektonske prezentacije i obrazovanja u Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center u Aleksandriji, Virdžinija i ima diplomu magistra nauka i arhitekture iz Georgia Tech u Atlanti, Džordžija. Bavi se arhitektonskom praksom i nastavom u oblasti arhitekture više od 20 godina, a trenutno predaje istoriju i teoriju arhitekture na Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation u Parizu i École Spéciale d’Architecture gde takođe predaje arhitektonski crtež.

Mary Vaughan Johnson currently resides in Paris, France, as the chief docent and curator of the Maison de Verre while completing her dissertation entitled, L’Art de Vivre Moderne in the Toilet Rooms of the Maison de Verre. She has made presentations at both national and international conferences on her subject. Mary Johnson is a PhD candidate in Architectural Representation and Education at the Washington-Alexandria Architecture Center in Alexandria, Virginia and holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Architecture from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia. She has practiced and taught architecture for more than 20 years and is currently teaching architectural history and theory at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in Paris and the Ecole Spéciale d’Architecture where she also teaches architectural drawing.
