Др Александра Ступар је редовни професор на Архитектонском факултету Универзитета у Београду, где је дипломирала, магистрирала и докторирала. Укључена је у бројне истраживачке пројекте, а радила је и на студијама, плановима и радионицама које се баве проблемима савремених градова, посебно сфером урбаних иновација и урбане транзиције. Руководилац је програма Докторских студија од 2024. године, а била је и руководилац Департмана за урбанизам у периоду 2017-2024.

Др Ступар је аутор две награђене књиге – „Град глобализације – изазови, трансформације, симболи“ (2009) и „Град – форме и процеси“ (2016/2019/2024), 27 научних чланака, више од 20 поглавља и преко 60 конференцијских радова. Као истраживач и предавач до сада је гостовала на следећим институцијама – Institute for Advanced Studies on Science, Technology and Society (IAS-STS) Graz (2007, 2011), University of Tampere – School of Humanities and Social Sciences (2010-2013), Sapienza Università di Roma – Facoltà di architettura Valle Giulia (2006, 2008-9), University of Helsinki – Faculty of Social Sciences (2019) и Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul (2021). Била је гост уредник тематског броја часописа Serbian Architectural Journal („City vs. Innovation“) 2012. године.

Члан је ISOCARP-a (International Society of City and Regional Planners), где је била и део научног комитета (2013-16), генерални известилац (Сијена, 2024) и известилац (Антверпен, 2007; Брисел, 2022). Била је национални представник у AESOP-у (2018-2022), а члан је и EAUH (European Association for Urban History).
