The exhibition “A Space: A Drawing and A Painting” presents the result of a curatorial selection process from the extensive collection of student artworks for the Arts Forms Course at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade. Today this collection holds about 6000 to 7000 student artworks, and a smaller number of teachers’ artworks, created during the long-lasting and diverse course from the Fine Arts curriculum at the Faculty.
In November 2016 the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade celebrated “170 Years Of Higher Education In The Field Of Architecture in Serbia”. This important anniversary has been used as the occasion to methodically organise the artworks and publicly display the collection. The process of curating and archiving began in the spring semester of 2015/16 and the result forms the basis of the exhibition – providing both an insight into the collection and a model for presenting an archive.

The practice of collecting and classifying students’ artworks has continued to this day. At the end of each academic year a number of high-quality artworks are selected in an effort to represent the ideas of those who participated, and give a comprehensive overview of the present character of the academic course. Continuing this tradition, the Art Forms Course now holds a collection that embraces contemporary artworks of students of architecture spanning over 60 years.
The exhibition “A Space: A Drawing and A Painting” represents the collection in its richness and thematic diversity. It presents one methodological insight into the scope of the collection and attempts to show the scope of art research in architectural teachings.
