In the period from 28th October to 5th November 2017, at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade, the international workshop “Glocal – Down Dorćol” was held, where students of Master programme in Integral urbanism and Master programme in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade and the students from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in Stuttgart, Master programme in Integrated urbanism and sustainable design took part. In the workshop proposal, the study and investigation territory was part of the Lower Dorćol area, between the streets of Tadeuša Košćuška, Cara Dušana, Dunavska and Francuska Street.
48 students from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade and 23 students from the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning in Stuttgart took part in this workshop. The workshop was organised for the students of the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade as part of the regular school curriculum for courses: Elective course 3 – Urbanism (MASIU – 23050 – U – 08): The policies of urban development (Assistant Professor Ratka Čolic and associate Jovana Bugarski), MASIU – 11043 IP01: Research methods and techniques (Associate Professor Marija Maruna) and MASIU – 11041 IP01: Integral analysis of territory (Associate Professor Marija Maruna and Assistant Professor Danijela Milovanović Rodić and the assistants Jelena Radosavljević and Mladen Pešić).
The workshop mentors from the University of Stuttgart were: Prof. Dr. Astrid Ley, Dr. Ing. Josefine Fokdal, Dipl.-Ing. Rainer Goutrié and Wei Jiang.
Collecting information about the location and lectures via Web platforms – “From MDGs to SDGs: Towards a new urban agenda” held by Prof. Dr. Astrid Ley and “Challenges of sustainable urban development” held by M.Sc. Yassine Moustanjidi – preceded the workshop.

Various activities were organised in order to recognise the needs of the local community. An integral analysis of the territory was made and a development strategy was defined for the Lower Dorćol area. The guest lectures and the “World Caffe” interviews with the local community and with Belgrade’s Municipality “Old Town” representatives Mladen Petković and Snežana Isaković were held in Dorćol Platz. The representatives of local independent organisations “Ministry Of Space” and “Streets For Cyclists” also took part in the workshop.
A lecture by Siniša Trkulja PhD, the representative of the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, made a valuable contribution to the process and creation of the final proposals for The Lower Dorćol and an understanding of the “Localising Sustainable Development Goals” subject in the context of Serbia.

One of the guest lecturers was Vladyslav Tyminskyi, the programme director of CANactions organisation. He gave the lecture: Strategic Design and (Spatial) Planning for Ukrainian Cities Development, that presented the CANaction activities, its programme, work methods and projects.
Some of the workshop activities were organised outside of the school premises, in Dorćol Platz – a local community center, where the final presentation of the students work was displayed on Friday, 3rd November 2017. The representatives of Belgrade’s Municipality “Old Town”, civil sector and Lower Dorćol inhabitants were all invited too.
By working together, students produced different outcomes for developing new housing models, land use, environment protection and management types. The final presentations had various forms, taking into account the importance of the research topic and inclusion of various participants in the process of creating the development strategy.
