Architectural Identities: Sushi Academy
Exhibition of architecture students’ works

The exhibition titled Architectural Identities: Sushi Academy of Master course students from the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade is the result of international cooperation between the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Serbia and the Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, Tokyo, Japan. The works and publications aim to explore the relationship between architecture and identity, as well as its presentation within a contemporary context. The exhibition is associated with the celebration of 140 years of friendly relations between Serbia and Japan (1882-2022).
Student works and scale models that will be exhibited (21 student works) deal with various topics and interpretations of Japanese culture, at several locations in Belgrade. Some of them include the cultural center and restaurant in the lower town of Belgrade Fortress, the conversion of the entire city block in lower Dorćol area, a floating structure (wasabi factory) at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, the activation of underground lagoons at Kosančićev venac, the introduction of rice field inspired structure at Ada Ciganlija, etc.
In addition to the exhibited works, visitors will be able to get acquainted with the process of establishing friendly relations between Serbia and Japan and diplomatic correspondence between King Milan I Obrenović and the Japanese Emperor Meiji, which began in 1882 after the declaration of Serbia’s independence at the Berlin Congress in 1878.
Along with the exhibition of works, a trilingual catalog (in Serbian, English and Japanese) with reviews compiled by H.E. Mr. Takahiko Katsumata, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Serbia and Satoshi Sano, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University, Tokyo, Japan.
