“Phantom Architect: Yoko Ono’s Instruction, Instructure and Instructionalized An-Archē-Tecture”

This lecture will critically examine the mediating practices of ‘instructionalization’ and ‘architecturalization’ in the construction of the social, spatial and temporal dimensions of Yoko Ono’s constellations of instructions.  

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the guest lecture held by Ms. Gabriella Daris titled “Phantom Architect: Yoko Ono’s Instruction, Instructure and Instructionalized An-Archē-Tecture” to be held at the Faculty of Architecture – University of Belgrade, Bulevar kralja Aleksandra 73/II on May 5 (Thursday) 2022, at 6PM in Hall 200.

This lecture is organized as a part of the Master Architecture Diploma Design A09 “Architectural Identities: Japanese Pavillion” coordinated by Associate Professor Ms. Dragana Vasiljević Tomić, Ph.D. and Graduate Teaching Assistant Mr. Ivan Filipović, Ph.D. This lecture is related to a number of activities marking 140 years of friendly relations of Serbia and Japan (1882-2022).

Gabriella Daris 

MRes in the Humanities & Cultural Studies and BA Hons in the History of Art and Literature (University of London), MA in Dance Writing and Criticism (University of Chichester), Visiting Research Fellow (Waseda University) 

Gabriella Daris is an art historian, curator and critic. She is currently working on a PhD project in the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy at Kingston University London that critically investigates Yoko Ono’s early works. In 2019, Daris curated the year-long exhibition Yoko Ono: Looking For… at several venues and public sites across the city of Cambridge and convened an international symposium on Yoko Ono at the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University. She has held Visiting Lectureships at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Open University and Visiting Research Fellowships at the Emily Harvey Foundation and Waseda University in Tokyo.
