Guess lecture “Architecture in the Mixed Realities” – Igor Pantic
Thursday 24th of November, 4PM
Room 301
“Architecture in the Mixed Realities” lecture examines the transformative impact of emerging technologies such as AR/VR and AI on architectural design and fabrication. By integrating computational design with immersive technologies, it delves into new methodologies that redefine how we create and experience the built environment. Exploring the convergence of digital and physical spaces, the lecture highlights innovative projects like the “Steampunk Pavilion” and other notable works that demonstrate the potential of Mixed Reality in architecture.
Through case studies and practical insights, it reveals how these technologies are reshaping the future of architecture.
Biography
Igor Pantic is an architectural designer and educator based in London and Bangkok, and the founder of Studio Igor Pantic Ltd. He works at the convergence of computational design, digital fabrication, immersive AR/VR technologies, and generative AI, exploring how these disciplines influence our design, creation, and perception of built and virtual environments. Igor specializes in implementing digital and automation technologies in architecture, including robotic fabrication, advanced material systems, and the application of Mixed Reality in architectural processes.
Igor held a position of Lecturer in Architecture at The Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL in London, where he spent 9 years teaching at the Bartlett’s B-Pro Architectural Design (AD) program, leading the research which focuses on the application of Mixed Reality technologies in architectural design and fabrication, operating at the overlap between low-cost AR-assisted fabrication and automation. In addition to this, he has lectured and taught design studios, computational design workshops, and seminars internationally. He has taught at the University of East London (MArch Unit 6), co-directed the AA Visiting School in Vienna, and held visiting professorships at INDA (Chulalongkorn University) and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Thailand. Igor has presented his research at prominent conferences such as CAADRIA, eCAADe, and ACADIA, and his work has been exhibited internationally.
His notable projects include the award-winning “Steampunk Pavilion” for the 2019 Tallinn Architecture Biennale, which demonstrated the pioneering use of Mixed Reality in construction. Before establishing his own design studio in 2018, Igor spent seven years with Zaha Hadid Architects in London, working on numerous high-profile projects across various scales. Igor holds a Master’s degree from the Architectural Association Design Research Lab (AADRL) in London and the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, Serbia.
