Vladimir Kovač (Trebinje, 1984), completed Undergraduate Studies of Architecture in 2006 (average: 9.31), and then Master Studies of Architecture in 2008 (average: 10.00) at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture (master project topic: Residential and business building on Pantelleria, Italy; grade: 10; mentor: Assistant Professor Dejan Miljković). He also completed scientific doctoral studies in architecture at the same faculty (average: 9.89), and in 2017 he defended his doctoral dissertation entitled Architectural drawing in the research of Đorđe Petrović between 1971 and 1989 (mentor: Prof. Vladimir Mako, PhD), which earned him the title of Doctor of Science in the field of Architecture and Urbanism (narrow field: Architecture and Visual Communications). He also completed a master’s degree in academic design at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade (2018; average: 10.00), focusing additionally on the field of graphic and visual communications (master project topic: Visual identity design of the Nation brand of Serbian; grade: 10; mentor: Prof. Zoran Blažina). At the Faculty of Architecture, he has been employed since 2006 in various academic title – demonstrator (2006), teaching associate (2008), teaching assistant (2010), professional associate (2016), all within the field of Visual Communication and Architectural Graphics, at the Department of Architecture. He was elected to the teaching title of Assistant professor for the same field in 2021, and participates in the creation, management and implementation of classes in several regular and elective subjects, in undergraduate and master studies.
The focus of the scientific work is the research of architectural drawing, visual communications and graphic representation in architecture. For his scientific achievements, he has been repeatedly awarded the prestigious scholarship of the Dr Milan Jelić Fund (2008, 2011, 2012) and is also the best scholarship holder in the first five-year cycle of the Fund’s existence (2007-2012); He is the winner of the Award of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Srpska for the best young researcher (2012), and the Annual Award of the University of Belgrade for the best student scientific research work (2008). He is the author and co-author of more than 40 scientific papers presented and published at international and domestic conferences, and published in scientific journals.
His professional engagement is focused on the field of visual communications and design, within which he has realized more than 400 projects. He has won over 50 awards at domestic and international public competitions, as well as many professional recognitions: ULUPUDS Annual Design Award (2012; 2013), Award of the May Exhibition of Applied Arts of Serbia for design (2013, 2020), Yugoslav Design Award Nenad Čonkić (2012) and ERSTE award for the most successful young artists in Serbia – Club 27 (2011). He had three solo and participated in over 100 collective exhibitions in the country and abroad. He has published more than 140 design projects and art works, and has given 25 author’s professional lectures. He is the author of the award-winning monograph Kovach: Duo Milia Unidecim (2012).
