Jelena Živković is Associate Professor of Urbanism at UBFA, a visiting professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture in Niš, and have lectured at the Roma Tre (2016) and Sapienza (2010) Univerities in Rome, within the Basileus and Erasmus + projects. She holds master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture.

Živković is the co-director (with Z. Đukanović) of the educational interdisciplinary program – Public Art & Public Space. Under her mentorship, students have been winning major national and regional awards (City of Belgrade Award for Youth Creativity, University of Belgrade Award, as well as Chamber of Commerce, Urban Planners Exhibition, and Trimo awards).

Her research, teaching and professional work focus on theory, practice and pedagogy of urban design; planning and design of open and recreational spaces; ecological urbanism; public art and placemaking. She was involved in several national and international research projects, and published over 100 articles, conference papers and chapters in monographs. She  was a member of the planning team for the Strategy and  Spatial Plan of the Republic of Serbia, and a member of the National Expert Team for the European Landscape Convention.

She is the co-head (with A. Nikezić) of the Vital Places Lab – a research laboratory at UBFA. In recent years she was the co-leader (with E. Battaglini) of the international research project Learning Economies. Modeling Community-Led Local Development for the Sustainable Economic Trajectories of the Negotin and Zlatibor Regions. Currently, she is involved in the ERASMUS+ project HERSUS – Enhancing of Heritage Awareness and Sustainability of Built Environment in Architectural and Urban Design Higher Education.

  1. Živković is the co-author of the book Public Art and Placemaking: Case Study – Belgrade, Municiplity Stari Grad (2008) and the co-editor of the books: Citta, Fiumi, Margini Fluviali – Roma Belgrado (2008), Multitasking – Public Space 4 Public Art (2008) and VinoGrad (2015).
