Andrej Jovanović was born in 1998 in Belgrade. After primary and secondary school, which he finished in Ćuprija, he enrolled and completed Bachelor (2020), and then Master (2022) academic studies at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture. He enrolled in Doctoral academic studies (2023) at the same faculty, which he is currently studying.
During his studies, he regularly participated in exhibitions of the best annual student works and was engaged several times as a student assistant at the Department of Architecture (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023) and at the Department of Urban Planning (2019, 2020). His Master’s final thesis, entitled Architecture of liminal space: dematerialization of the border of the old sugar factory in Ćuprija, was nominated by an external commission (2022) for the prestigious RIBA President’s Medals – Silver and the UnIATA World’s best graduation projects ever created awards and was exhibited at the Architecture Salon in Belgrade (2023).
He is engaged in research work in the field of architectural and urban planning with a special interest in semiotic theories in architecture and critical reflections concerning the design process and the symbolic function of architectural elements. He is employed at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture as a Research Trainee (2024) where he is engaged in teaching at the Department of Architecture. As a researcher, he is engaged within the Laboratory for Typology and Morphology of the City (Morpho-lab), a research unit of the Research Center (CID) at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture. He is one of the authors of the pavilion of Montenegro at the 18th Architecture Biennale in Venice (2023) with his exhibited work Krajputaši / Roadsiders.
Andrej Jovanović is a regular and award-winning participant of numerous domestic and foreign competitions, exhibitions, scientific conferences and workshops in the field of architecture.
