Milja Mladenović was born on December 31, 1995, in Belgrade, where she completed her bachelor’s studies in Architecture, master’s studies in Integrated Urbanism and doctoral studies in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture.  

During her undergraduate and master’s studies, she participated in various workshops, competitions, and exhibitions showcasing the most successful student works. In addition to her formal education, she has furthered her knowledge through various courses and training sessions in architecture, urbanism, and cultural heritage. This includes completing the certified course Cultural Heritage in Transformation RWTH at RWTH Aachen University through the edX program in 2021.  

She enrolled in doctoral studies in Architecture and Urbanism at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, in 2019, successfully defending her dissertation titled Modalities of Digital Media Application for Cultural Heritage Presentation in Public Spaces in 2023 with the highest grade.  

As a research associate at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, she is engaged in two laboratories: the Vital Places Lab and the Urban Studies Lab – City Experiment. Her research focuses on various aspects of identifying and presenting cultural heritage within the urban fabric, as well as different phenomena and processes of urban development, linking urban memory and contemporary planning and design frameworks.  

Since 2016, she has been involved as a student teaching associate in courses at the Department of Urbanism and Department of Architecture. Her published scientific papers include two chapters in international monographs, conference papers, and articles in journals of international and national significance. She moderated a session titled “Transformative Perspectives: The Nature of Recall” at the international conference The Place of Memory and the Memory of Place held at St Anne’s College, Oxford, in June 2022. In 2024, she was awarded a fellowship at the Center for Advanced and Postdoctoral Research at the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” in Skopje, further expanding her academic endeavours. 

Since 2020, she has actively engaged in popularising urban planning issues among the general public through media, by conducting expert analyses in the field of architecture and urbanism concerning contemporary urban concepts and planning issues in Belgrade and Serbia.  

She is a member of the scientific organisation Association of European Schools of Planning Young Academics Network (AESOP-YA), as well as professional associations, including the Women in Architecture Society (Žensko arhitektonsko društvo – ŽAD) and the Association of Engineers of Belgrade (Udruženje inženjera Beograda – UIB).
